NZBN services - they're great and free
NZBN services are designed with your business in mind.
They make it easier to get connected with the NZBN so you can do business with others, build robust high quality business networks, and automate time-consuming manual work, so you can spend more time on your core business.
Best of all, they’re free to sign up for and use, so get started now.
You probably already have a list of the customers and suppliers you work with. Let us help you match those businesses to their NZBNs with our free and secure NZBN-Business Match service.
Knowing the NZBNs of the businesses you deal with makes it easy to keep information up-to-date and be sure you find out as soon as any of their details change.
Karen’s catering business delivers tasty snacks to corporate clients for meetings. Karen decided to use the free NZBN-Business Match to find the NZBNs of the businesses she supplies to, so she can be sure she’s always got the most up-to-date delivery address for each client, particularly the ones who use her business only occasionally. This means Karen’s pies and scones make it to the right address, every time. She also has her clients on her watchlist, so she gets updates if any of their details change.
We can match information by:
- trading name
- legal entity name
- Companies Office registration number
We can match to all companies, incorporated societies, charitable trust boards, limited partnerships, public sector entities (including central government agencies and schools as well as local government), and sole traders, partnerships and trusts that have an NZBN.
How it works
You send us your data, and we’ll run it through our NZBN-Business Match programme. We’ll let you know what percentage we’ve been able to match and return your data to you with the NZBNs included.
To request NZBN-Business Match, contact our support team by emailing email@example.com
We'll keep your data safe
The information you supply to us for matching purposes won’t be shared with anyone else. We won’t use the information for any purpose other than matching it to NZBNs. We’ll delete the information you’ve provided once we've completed the matching and returned the updated data to you.
The best way to find, share, maintain and update information about businesses on the NZBN Register is through our NZBN API(external link). You can register for our API, and it’s free.
How it works
An API sounds complicated, but it’s quite simple. Think of the NZBN API like a messenger, taking your request for information to the NZBN Register, and delivering a response back to you.
That’s a really simple explanation for a lot of technical wizardry that happens ‘behind the scenes’, so you can maximise the use of the NZBN.
For example you can use our API to:
- find other businesses’ core business information (their Primary Business Data)
- manage your own business’s NZBN core business information
- set up a watchlist of your suppliers and customers NZBNs, so you’ll receive an alert when a business you deal with changes its details
- grant or revoke authority over any business you manage.
If you’re a developer, you’ll find our API easy to subscribe to and use with your application. Use the NZBN API to interact with other businesses and create exciting possibilities for your business. You can register for the NZBN API at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment's API website(external link).
For example, if you supply to a business, and they change their details without you knowing, you might send your invoices to an out-of-date email address. This could mean delays and your invoice not getting paid on time.
You can set up a watchlist for any businesses that are of interest to you, such as your key customers. Once a business is on your watchlist, we’ll let you know via an email alert, or your API connection, if any of the details for that business change. That way you’ll always have up-to-date information on the businesses you deal with.
NZBN bulk data is all the publicly available information for NZBN registered businesses, including companies, public sector and unincorporated entities (sole traders, partnerships and trusts).
We update this data every month, and you can download it free anytime, in both XML and JSON formats.
Why would my business want NZBN bulk data?
Maybe your business isn’t quite ready to use our API yet, but you’re preparing for it. In the meantime, you can get a copy of our NZBN bulk data to help match the details you have about your clients to their NZBNs, so when you’re ready to implement the NZBN API you have all the right information, ready to go.
